About Byron Bay Candles
Byron Bay Candles have just re-designed their candle range. What was already a lovely product has been refined to include soft pastel colours and fine silver detail in the print. The overall effect has created a luxury look with a beach twist and the new colour palette is on trend. We chat to Michelle about where it all started and where it's all going now!
Tell us how you got into candle making.
We owned The Hat Empire for 10 years and felt like we needed a change. We knew Dave and Rona who were the owners of Byron Bay Candles, so when they decided to sell up we felt like this was the change we had been looking for. We had been looking for something creative, hands on and locally made and that had lots of possibilities, and it has certainly proved to be all of these things and more. It has been a very rewarding journey so far, we have loved seeing our candles go out all around the country.
What is your favourite scent and why?
Its hard to pick one favourite one, but Lotus Flower and Sandalwood Vanilla would be our top picks. They are both really sensual, comforting fragrances.

Why did you choose soy as the base for your candles?
When we took over the business it was using paraffin wax as the base and we quickly noticed that people kept asking us for soy, so after doing some research we decided soy was a great way to go. You can work at a lower heat, so its less dangerous, no toxic fumes as its heating and it produces lovely candles with a longer burn time and we love that we are working with a renewable product.
Tell us about your new brand/products?
We are so excited that we have a new boxed range coming out for the spring/summer season, it looks gorgeous, we have put a lot of love and thought into designing the new range and we can’t wait to have them on shelves. New labels on the glass lid range are higher quality than before. The logo is actually silver and the label has a lovely sheen to it. The reed diffusers have a clear silver foil label which is much more understated and will fit in easily with a wide range of home décor.
And our favourite new addition is our brand new boxed candle range....the logo is etched into the glass itself and the boxes have a lovely textured finish with silver foiling and good internal support - they are divine. Overall there is a lot more elegance and cohesion to the range, we are very excited to present it and are confident that our customers will love it!
